So there is evidence that information regarding efficiency (as it’s called in the article) is disseminated to patients at some level. I say that’s, from a market design standpoint, nearly useless. There is no market information on price disseminated. As long as there is no economic information (and therefore no competition) on price in the healthcare system, practitioners can continue to charge whatever the market will bear…and when that market of payers is mostly insurance companies, you know it’ll be too much. No one should give a damn how effective our healthcare system is when they can’t afford it.
