Google Bus Protests Get Colorful Ahead Of Hearing On City Shuttle Program

More in the SF gentrification drama. Regardless of the economics here, I think one thing is clear: Google’s busing choices are the most public of its many displays of an utter lack of corporate citizenship. If you want to use city facilities, pay for it. If you want to actually prove you’re something other than a faceless juggernaut, consider giving something back to the city beyond the bare minimum. The same can be broadly applied to most Google employees, who like many technically educated young people tend to be blissfully ignorant of the broader systems around them upon which they are placing considerable strain.

  1. “many technically educated young people tend to be blissfully ignorant of the broader systems around them”

Even for those who are cognizant of the broader systems around them, when they see a problem, they automatically assume there is a technological solution. They then develop one in isolation, ignoring the broader context. It’s all “disrupt, disrupt, disrupt” — and then they get all surprised when something like this backlash happens.
