Pajiba: Peak Reference — The Point At Which We Can’t Cram Anymore References Into Our Head — Is Coming

I found this amusing more than anything else, but the author certainly has a point. I first saw The Breakfast Club hanging out at my parents’ with my brother sometime while home on break from grad school in 2010. Like the author I hear references to 80s movies all the time despite the fact that most of them were filmed before I was born.

This does seem like a long stretch of pop culture time, but then again I know people still lionizing the Beatles and Led Zeppelin as if nothing of value has come from music in the last 40 years. Will we shift forward, pop culture-wise? Maybe. For better or worse, Animaniacs was already off the air for two years when this year’s high school freshmen were born.
