New Republic: Piketty’s Global Wealth Tax Isn’t Happening. Here Are Five Politically Realistic Ideas Instead.


My first impression? “More realistic than a global wealth tax” is a really fucking low bar for political realism. Some of these could happen, but not in our current political climate. And a move like “deregulate the housing industry” is going to have property owners howling as you instantly and vastly depreciate their holdings (assuming said deregulation works as intended, which my energy experience tells me it won’t). Still interesting reading, but as Inigo Montoya would say:

“Realistic…you keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means.”
