Vice, in my opinion, tells it like it is: Viral content continues the long legacy of appealing to the lowest common denominator and using half-truth to shock and gain eyeballs. Well, yeah.
The only hope for the future we have so far is that Jonah Peretti has made less money than William Randolph Hearst. Both are completely emblematic of culture’s most persistent enemy: very smart people who have figured out how to exploit the masses for money. That being said, I can’t really blame either of them.
