Ultimately, the issue with pink slime is not the food itself (while the idea of manufactured beef like that is kind of gross, it’s perfectly safe), but rather the utterly unnecessary panic around it. Americans (most people, let’s be real) don’t know how their food is made, and the minute they get even a slight insight into why our food is typically so cheap, it’s revolting to them.
I say: give it up. I’m willing to make personal choices to spend more and eat healthier whole food, but cheap food and manufactured food is demanded, and it helps feed people. If you’re going to have a freak-out about food, at least understand what’s going on…is that so much to ask?
