Gizmodo: Kickstarter Just Opened the Floodgates to Even More Frauds and Scams

I find it surprising that anyone is surprised by this. We as a society seem to get on just fine with the existence of scammers on Craigslist and eBay, but Kickstarter? Shock and horror! Give me a fucking break. The entire point of Kickstarter was to allow its users to pass risk on to potential customers in a manner less organized than traditional investing. Let me repeat that one more time: the point is to transfer risk to the people funding the project. So when people exploit that you’re…surprised?

Caveat emptor. I have no problem letting people suffer financially for being stupid on the internet. No one has to use Kickstarter. Same goes for Indiegogo, and in fact, same goes for eBay and Craigslist.
