Gizmodo: Razr Burn: My Month With 2004’s Most Exciting Phone

Digital detox was something I covered relatively early in this blog’s lifespan, namely how I don’t believe in it. This article reinforced my belief, but I did come out with some better understanding.

There are downsides to becoming electronically dependent. Our phones enable us to give up on core life skills (like reading a map) without even thinking about it.

But when it comes to their intended purpose, communicating, smartphones are miles ahead of anything else we’ve ever produced. And that’s really the reason we can’t live without them…the alternatives are all so much worse.

So yeah, keep the phone put away at dinner, and learn how to navigate your city without GPS. But don’t complain too hard about smartphones.
