New York Times: The kids who beat autism

Autism is a confounding subject, and reading more about the wildly divergent results of behavioral therapy make it more, not less so. While what we hear about in the news is more the uninformed hysteria around vaccines, it’s important to circle back and remember that autism diagnoses are going up, and no one really knows why.

Brain development is a weird thing. And seeing the potential to describe autism as an entire class of developmental disorders caused by wildly different things would ask as many new questions as old ones it answers. But that may be how best to being approaching it…without an explanation like that, the sample space of autistic people is too weird to really analyze effectively…as plenty of psychologists could probably tell you.
